Build a dashboard template
Build dashboards with natural language.
Projects
Within your workspace, you can create and manage projects. Each project acts as a dashboard template, the default state that your users will see when using the embedded data feature for the first time.
Create a project
Before you can create a project, you will need to connect your database or warehouse. Once you’ve connected a data source, you can create a new project by doing the following:
- Click “New Project” on the projects page
- Enter a project name
- Select the data source you’d like to use (this cannot be changed once a project is created)
Save charts to your dashboard template
The following steps will help you save charts to your dashboard template:
- Click any button that says “Add chart”
- In the search box, type in your question and hit enter. Depending on the complexity of your question, data will be returned in 5 - 15 seconds.
- You can refine the data returned by chatting via the text box in the bottom right.
- You can also edit the following chart details:
Details How to edit Title Click on the title, enter the new text in the input box, and hit enter to save. Subtitle Click on the subtitle, enter the new text in the input box, and hit enter to save. Table View There is a toggle button to the right of the chart title. Use this toggle to switch between a table or chart view. You can change the chart type by click the drop down above the visualization. Depending on the chart type, you can change the X axis, Y axis, etc. - Save the chart to your dashboard template by clicking the “Save” button in the top right corner of the page.
Once embedded, the data displayed in each chart will be filtered in real-time to only show each user their specific data. The charts that you save will only act as the starting point for your users. They will still have the ability to move things around, drill into the charts you’ve saved, ask their own data questions, and build their own dashboards.
Preview mode
Click “Preview” to see the exact experience your users will see when they first start using the embedded data feature. You can ask questions, save metrics, move things around, etc without affecting your dashboard template.
Editing saved charts
You can open any saved chart by clicking the chart title. Once the metric is open you can continue chatting with it, edit it’s title, change the visualization, etc. Nothing will be changed on your dashboard until you click “Save”.
Search history
To see your previous chats, you can click the “Search history” icon from the dashboard’s main page.
Frequently asked questions
Will my users see each other’s data?
No. Once embedded, the data displayed in each chart will be filtered in real-time to only show each user their specific data. To learn more about this, reference multi-tenant access controls or single-tenant access controls.
Will my users still be able to ask their own data questions?
Yes. The charts that are saved within a project will act as the starting point for your users. Your users will still have the ability to move things around, drill into the charts you’ve saved, ask their own data questions, and build their own dashboards.
